The Truth Shall Set You Free.

It was the year 1492, and a man named Columbus was out at sea, his desire to find a faster route to India for trade. Until this point in time, the only known ways were sailing around the continent of Africa or tranversing Europe and Asia, but Columbus had a new idea, sail across the Alantic Ocean, an idea many must have mocked him for. "There is no way you can make it!" some must have said "you will either meet your end while facing a sea monster or sailing off the edge of earth." Many held the belief at this time that the world was flat and could be sailed off of if one voyaged to far. Columbus was eager to show his criticizers wrong by making a successful voyage to and from India.

Though he did not find that trade route to India, Columbus did arrive at a land that was, until then, known to very few others, The Americas. He also helped strip away many of the false beliefs about the planet at that time. With this new found release from the shackels of false ideas, people were then free to travel the ocean as they pleased and many left their native countries in hope of starting a new life in the Americas.

Christ taught "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32) My father once taught me "we live our lives based on the way we perceive truth, and an important part of our lives is to align our perception of truth with what is true." When we learn truths for ourselves, we are then able to use those truths to our benefit. For many thousands of years, flight was thought impossible until two brothers flew an airplane. It may have only been a short distance by today's standard, but for them it was momentous. No longer was man land bound, but could now travel through air allowing for easier travel. The Wright Brothers could have easily been like everyone of
their time and been content with land and sea travel, but they dreamt of flight, they sought to be released from the ideas of the time that were literally keeping them down and fly free with new knowledge of what is true.

Columbus and The Wright Brothers were not content with living with the ideas of their times, they wanted to know what was actually true; they put off the popular beliefs that people perceived to be true, and instead found out what was true.

As a missionary, I help people come to know truth. There are so many ideas out there about what is true, or how we can know what is true, but God has reached out in love and has taught us that it is by the power of the Holy Ghost we can know the truth of all things. (see Moroni 10:5) Come and seek truth for yourself because it will set you free and just as the truths Columbus and the Wright Brothers helped every generation since, the truths you learn will bless you and your family.
